Infectious Disease Epidemiology: Theory and Practice
Published in Hardcover by Aspen Publishers, Inc. (June, 2000)
Authors: Kenrad E. Nelson, Carolyn Masters Williams, Neil M. H. Graham, and Carolyn F. Masters
Average review score:

An excellent, detailed overview for both experts and novices
This text is an excellent textbook for both infectious disease professionals and for students of infectious disease epidemiology. Nelson and colleagues cover a range of essential topics from a survey of important historical epidemics to study designs for infectious disease investigations. The first part of the text covers ID epidemiology background and methodology, whereas the second focuses on specific diseases as examples of different transmission modalities. TB, HIV and Influenza are among the pathogens discussed in great detail. Chapters are written by experts in their respective fields, making this textbook not only authoritative, but also up-to-date in scope and content. Many of the authors are affiliated with the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health or the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. "Infectious Disease Epidemiology" is extremely readable, and serves as an excellent reference tool. I highly recommend it.

The Inform Designer's Manual
Published in Paperback by Interactive Fiction Library (August, 2001)
Authors: Graham Nelson and Gareth Rees

You can write Interactive Fiction too!
Remember Infocom and their games, such as Zork, Suspect, and The Lurking Horror?

Well those games were called Interactive Fiction, and in the mid-eighties, ruled the software sales charts. Soon enough though, graphicical games took their place in popularity and Interactive Fiction seemed to have disappeared from the landscape.

Then in the early 90's, a couple of developers revived the genre with a couple of compilers, one of them called Inform. Appropriately, Inform creates games files that run against the exact same virtual machine that was used by Infocom, called the Z-Machine.

Inform is a complete language, compiler, and set of library extensions that lets an author/programmer create the same type of Interactive Fiction that was so popular in past times.

The Inform Designer's Manual: 4th Edition is the technical manual for the Inform compiler and includes an entire section on the history of the artform.

This is one of the best technical books you could ever hope for and if you have any interest in the Interactive Genre, it's a must-have for your collection.

The Inshore Squadron
Published in Paperback by Jove Pubns (November, 1984)
Average review score:

One of Bolitho's best
It almost gets repetitive, but this one rates with Kent/Reeman's best in a superb series. Good story, thrilling action, great scenes and exchanges between Bolitho and Herrick, Allday, & Adam. The usual excellent descriptive writing, this time of conditions in the Baltic during winter, was of great help when reading it in a crowded bus in San Francisco when the temperature was an unbelievable 103.

The Best International Game Book I've ever found!
This book is the best game book I've ever found. The layout of the book by continents/regions of the world is most helpful. The background information given adds to the appreciation of the game. The checklist of equipment needed, the excellent diagrams on executing the game (or dance)and grade appropriateness makes these games a sure hit with all ages. I also appreciate the index of games and dances by country. I have used many of these games for intergenerational gatherings with great success.

The Interpretation of Waking Life
Published in Paperback by Univ of Arkansas Pr (May, 1991)
Author: Eric Nelson
Average review score:

Excellent & moving
One poem here is titled "Our Daily Losses," which might well serve as a summary of this excellent collection's theme and tone. Although the poems often display a comic edge, and are never ponderously solemn, Nelson's always got his eye on the attritions of daily life. He is especially moving as a poet of family and love, accordingly, since his gaze is both clear and honest in mixing joy with grief, melancholy with pleasure, dream with reality, fear with contentment, and so forth. Solidly crafted with vivid, precise language, his poems are accessible and thoughtful.
